Amazonian Warrior in Training

I’m still in the adjustment phase of my new temporary job at Amazon.com. It’s physical and I’ve been writing a lot and exercising much less than I should, so my body is protesting. Also, it’s a night shift, so I need to learn to sleep longer in the daytime. Things like that.

Everyone is in the same boat. There were 100 new employees this week, so it is really, really easy to find people who are tired and cranky. In fact, it’s easier to find cranky people than friendly people. Some of us aspire to keep a good attitude so we last though. After all, it’s a paycheck even if it’s hard work. Might as well have fun while earning the money.

My brother is working out there too, but in a different department. One of his coworkers made a small error with these Darth Vader toys. It's a long story what that error was, but suffice it to say, to fix the problem she had to walk a 1/4 mile to the help desk. She sighed, and bemoaned the fact as even cheerful people would 8 hours into a 10-hour shift. My brother helped her haul these toys down from the 3rd floor to his cart so she could use that to bring them on her trek.

When he saw her later he asked her, "How is the battle with Darth Vader going?"

She said... "I won this time!"

I don’t even have a clue who this woman is and will probably never meet her. But I had to smile because people need a sense of humor when they've got a job that means walking 1/4 mile when they make a tiny error. Of course, the walk to the help desk teaches people to learn from their mistakes. In fact, it teaches people to learn from other peoples mistakes!

Anyway, life is easier with a sense of humor.

My Favorite Things

Thirteen of My Favorite Things Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens.... I love watching and singing along to a great musical. When I was a kid I used to run about singing like life was a musical. People would ask me what I was singing, but I was just making it up as I went. And I love dancing. I talked my mother into letting me take ballet lessons for a little while. But I wasn’t graceful and my ballet teacher didn’t have very liberal thoughts on teaching children. If you sucked, she let you know. But, she couldn’t ever accuse me of not enjoying dancing. All my favorite songs are either on soundtracks, or are great story like “Desperado” by the Eagles. Listing thirteen favorites might be the subject of another Thursday Thirteen. Some of the movie songs I’ve listened to while typing today: Da Funk by Daft Punk on The Saint soundtrack and #1 Crush by Mundy on the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack. Writing. I can get lost in writing. I love creating stories and characters. Apparently e
