Relic Cover of the Week

News is that Relic is the Book Cover of the Week at Erin Aislinn's site. Voting will be in May. Check out April's voting if you have a moment.

Things have been creeping up on me. I was thinking about how time is going by so fast. Feels that way because I haven't written much over the past few weeks and I really wanted to finish an idea I had by a deadline of next week for a special anthology project. I can't see myself finishing and editing the novella in a few hours each night and the weekend. I could still try, but might just have to submit it some other time.

I got off work and went and met some old friends of the family who are visiting from Illinois and I'm ready to read a little and crash, not write. Had a nice dinner, but even better ... a hunk of a waiter winked at me and I nearly swooned. This is the kind of stuff that inspires writing! LOL.

Ah gee, see... I'm repeating myself. Did I mentioned I'm tired? Sometimes it takes more than inspiration. But man-oh-man was that guy a handsome young man. He needs to be a hero in a romance novel.

  1. Annalee, I'm making myself nuts trying to finish a story for submission to the anthology, so I know what you mean. Not sure I'm going to make it, either, but I hope to.

I had a waiter once who looked like a young Jean-Claude Van Damme. Grrrrrowf. (frown) Hey, no winking was involved. What's up with that?!?

  2. Annalee,

How long does it usually take you to finish a novella? How many words are they? I was thinking of trying my hand at one.

  3. I think you should go back the restaurant. Purely for inspiration, of course. :)

  4. Ah! That's why I haven't heard from you about that stuff I emailed you. No problem! You have to have priorities, and sleep is one of them, your writing is next, then maybe eating and ....you know.

That would be cool if your cover won.
Yeah, I agree with debbielynn77, go back to the waiter! Always nice to get a *wink* fix! LOL

I hope you are able to conquer the novella soon! I'm pullin' for you!

  5. RE: Hunk...

My cubicle neighbor at my new job was teasing me about not talking to Mr. Hunky because my excuse was, "He wasn't my waiter." As for going back... Unfortunately, it's one of the fancier steakhouses and so if I went too often they'd eventually have to remind me I don't gamble enough.

  6. I can't remember the last time I was winked at my anything or anyone!

Definetly put him in a good story.

  7. Sherrill - Maybe we can write like mad all weekend. Good luck too.

Tanya - At NCP the length is listed as 20-39,000 on the main pages - but on their submissions page they ask for more specific lengths depending on what project the story would be part of. At EC the word count starts at 15,000, and a 30,000 word story would be category length. Don't have other's memorized.

  8. Oh... and how long? I've had time periods where I could write about 1000 words an hour. But getting into that zone is like magic. If I ever figure out how I do it I'll write a book about it! LOL. That must be about the speed very prolific writers work. The two novellas I've written each took closer to a month than a week.

  9. Leann - I couldn't remember the last time either, come to think of it.

My Favorite Things

Thirteen of My Favorite Things Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens.... I love watching and singing along to a great musical. When I was a kid I used to run about singing like life was a musical. People would ask me what I was singing, but I was just making it up as I went. And I love dancing. I talked my mother into letting me take ballet lessons for a little while. But I wasn’t graceful and my ballet teacher didn’t have very liberal thoughts on teaching children. If you sucked, she let you know. But, she couldn’t ever accuse me of not enjoying dancing. All my favorite songs are either on soundtracks, or are great story like “Desperado” by the Eagles. Listing thirteen favorites might be the subject of another Thursday Thirteen. Some of the movie songs I’ve listened to while typing today: Da Funk by Daft Punk on The Saint soundtrack and #1 Crush by Mundy on the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack. Writing. I can get lost in writing. I love creating stories and characters. Apparently e
