I finally finished Your Planet or Mine? by Susan Grant. It is a tear jerker. It is incredibly funny. It takes place in a town I have been too, so I liked that too. I saw on Susan Grant's blog that Jana’s brother’s book comes out in March. I was kind of hoping the REEF would get a second chance like “Terminator” and rework the bad boy thing he had going. I really like stories like that, where even the protagonist wasn’t multi-dimensional. Or at least that is what I read into the character. It isn’t just that I’m fun writing about cyborgs that got me interested in that character, it quite possibly could be because this was a great book.
Actually it took me a long, long time to read that book because I wrote far more than I read this past month.
Speaking of bad guys…
There have been tons of power outages over the last month or so. They always happen when I’m at home and have time to write. They never happen when I’m at the day job. Except this morning. I woke up at 7 a.m. and hit the snooze bar and boy did I ever get the chance to snooze. Sometime after 8 realized something was wrong and opened by eyes and flew into motion. I took a shower in the dark, rushed out the door, got 20+ miles down the freeway and had the building in sight and saw a train coming. I was able to cross safely, but if I’d been 30 seconds later I’d have been late to work. Instead I arrived with two minutes to spare.
Back to the bad guys tie-in. I know, I'm babbling!
According to the news, several of the power outages are because people are stealing copper wire -- mostly form power lines that are no longer in use. The police found out when one of the raids was botched and they got into some live wire and had to hightail it out of there before electrocuting themselves. They are doing this in broad daylight, and people aren’t questioning them at the time. They must look like they belong. They must have equipment capable of rolling up and hauling away tons of copper wire. Who can get away with cutting power lines down? People that work for the power company, that is who. I’ve decided it is an inside job.
I hope they read this so they know that they are “cutting into” my writing time.
Stop it!
