Met A Writer

Well, there isn't much exciting going on at work yet. I did start out at Amazon.com. I was away from home for 14 hours so just popping onto the computer for a brief look-see.

One of my buddies I hadn't seen in a month or two asked how writing was going and this guy that overheard came and talked with me. He's writing a screen play. He's got some experience in production. He was telling me some funny stories about his work on various television shows. Sounds interesting to me. Too bad he isn't in my department, that means I probably won't get to talk to him a whole lot.

I did get on the Amazon.com website and notice that Dara Joy's That Familiar Touch is going from $40 to about $190! Those are used, directly from private people or independent used bookstores.

  1. Dang! I've got that book.
I better put it somewhere special, huh?

  2. Laine!
    Are they that good?
Read Knight of a Trillion Stars..if you can find it.
That was the book that started her career. It's a futuristic. I've read it numerous times. Love Lorgin and how he gets Deanna to come to his world. The "romantic scenes" are or at least for THAT time, incredibly original, sensual and HOT. Rejar the book isn't the best example. (don't read that first) Rejar the character is so yummy! I wanted a Familiar for myself....purr.... High Intensity and the other companion to it is a contemporary. Very hot stuff, but fun too. oooh, and Ritual of Proof is the last book she published with a publishing house. It takes the traditional roles of female/male and reverses them in society. Females have the power, run the governments and are head of the household. Men, on the other hand...are where women are in our own reality. Very intriguing concept. It took me awhile to get into the world building though.
Dara's next self published book is The Adventures of WildCat Arrows. I've had it on pre-order since April. It hasn't been published yet..the hurricanes messed with the printing schedules and I guess the print order was larger than anticipated (I'm not surprised) so its causing all kinds of delays. I'm waiting patiently for my email notice stating the shipment dates.

Sorry, Annalee, that I took over the answer. I LOVE Dara's work.
    Got carried away..just a bit.
(psst., cover art and models are simply drool-worthy too.)

  3. Michele, I've been away from computer for a few days so I'm playing catch-up. LOL.

Laine, Michele and I met in the blogosphere realm because we both love Dara Joy and got to talking! I haven't read the new books that she self-published, but like Michele said... try Dara Joy.

PS to Michele - I own Ritual of Proof! I still haven't read it. It's just that I have it so I know it is there, so I read others. I'm such a book nut.

A Movie Day

I brought my nephews (not the twins, the older ones) to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix today. It wasn't intentional. I was looking at a month-old "calendar" in the newspaper. I had no reason to believe it didn't make it to the recycle bin a month ago, so I ended up at the theatre looking for Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End. It turned out for the best because since the previews were nearly over for HP, we didn't have enough time to spend another $12 on pop corn and pops! They didn't mind until about half-way into the movie when some sucker gave into demands for candy and pop corn from their children and took off for the snack bar. I heard this, "can we have popcorn?" from the general direction of Griffin. I figured I need to train him young that going to the snack bar in the middle of the movie is a waste of time and money. I am not completely heartless. I promised to make them popcorn this evening. As for the movie... The...
