This website has a lot of information, and much written on a level useful for those of us who are non-scientific. This web page is designed to give everyone an idea of what our universe actually looks like.

My favorite page is "A Map of the Milky Way" which is the best image I've found that shows what the Milky Way Galaxy probably looks like from overhead.
