Photo from March 6th, 2010 at the ceremonial start in Anchorage, Alaska of the start of the Iditarod. The mushers take so the crowds in Anchorage can cheer them on, travel a handful of miles and then truck their dogs out to Wasilla where they can get going for good. Only time I ever bothered to go out to Wasilla to watch the official start was when a man I knew was running in the Iditard. But, when I lived in Anchorage almost every year I went to start the ceremonial start.
