Memory Techniques - Learning Foreign Languages

Over a million words in English? Wow. 85% of the words we use regularly are simply 1000 of these one million words.

I don't buy into the idea to focus on those 1000 words. I want to be fluent in my foreign languages. It might be that most of what people say includes those popular words... but I find the important words in so, so, so many system are among the other 15%!!!

I do very little to focus on vocabulary because I read and listen to podcasts at LingQ. I just keep reading and listening and giving my brain more words to think about. But I do follow the basic ideas Olly Richard's has outlined this video. When I'm having trouble with a specific word I identify it and look for sample sentences to write in my language (vocabulary) notebook.

Also, I have started putting up little sticky notes all over my house with the names of common every day objects in the foreign language that I'm listening too.

But I listened to this podcast anyway because I would love to learn vocabulary more quickly!
