Searcing for Extra-Terrestrials

Kepler Mission: A Search for Terrestrial Planets http://www.kepler.arc.nasa.gov/index.html An NASA site with a lot of information. Alien Earths Online http://www.alienearths.org/index.php Developed in part by NASA. This has some fun activities like a game where you can create your own star system. National Institute for Discovery Science http://www.nidsci.org/index.html NIDS is a science institute that treats researching UFOs as science. Some articles are a bit too much for those who don’t read math and physics. You won't find little green men on these pages, just a honest look at the question... are we alone?

NASA Links

NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/lib/aptree.html Kepler Mission: A Search for Terrestrial Planets http://www.kepler.arc.nasa.gov/index.html Another NASA site with a lot of information. NASA Earth Observatory http://www.doi.gov/octc/holland.html http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/ A great website with a wonderful layout. The site is full of images, features and news on a variety of topics such as – the atmosphere, weather, oceans, land, life, energy and the list goes on. And, of course, NASA is the leader in providing views of Earth from outer space. Make sure to visit the web pages called NASA's Visible Earth . How on Earth was this Image Made? Is a web page with interesting images and descriptions of what Earth looks like from outer space. I learned that the line between day and night is called a "terminator". National Space Science Data Center http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/ There are tons of images of the solar system, and more.

Fourmilab

Fourmilab http://www.fourmilab.ch/ A Swiss site maintained by John Walker, one of the people who wrote AutoCAD. His personal interests swing toward astronomy, so you can find some great pages like an "Earth and Moon Viewer" . I found it interesting to see what Earth looks like at night, with clouds, and on some of the images you can pan and by using your back button can get a rotation effect going.

Ask An Astronomer

Curious About Astronomy? Ask An Astronomer http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/index.php Cornell University's website is chock full of information from those in the know. I used their service once and e-mailed in a question. The answer I got from one of their astronomy students helped me visualize an astronomy student and ask a question. Within a few weeks someone got back to me and gave me an answer I found very useful in my writing a scene in Starlit Destiny ( http://www.newconceptspublishing.com/starlitdestiny.htm ). Of course, you'll find a lot of questions on the site that other people have asked.

An Atlas of the Universe

http://www.atlasoftheuniverse.com/ This website has a lot of information, and much written on a level useful for those of us who are non-scientific. This web page is designed to give everyone an idea of what our universe actually looks like. My favorite page is "A Map of the Milky Way " which is the best image I've found that shows what the Milky Way Galaxy probably looks like from overhead.

The Darkside of the Earth

Planets aren't always "full" against the backdrop of space. At least some space travelers will approach planets when they are showing their "darkside". NASA's Galileo mission took this picture of the Earth, and the Moon. Views From Low Orbit

Here is an interesting view of the Earth's atmosphere during sunset from a position in low orbit. Venus can be seen just over the glow of the atmosphere. The Space Shuttle Discovery's crew snapped this shot when they were flying over Earth during mission STS-30. Image Credit: STS-30 Crew, NASA More information can be found on the http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap990619.html A corresponding picture of sunrise from low orbit over Earth. The Space Shuttle's crew snapped this shot when they were flying over Earth during mission STS-47. Image Credit: STS-47 Crew, NASA http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap951117.html Moonset Over Earth I found the view of the different layers of a planet's atmosphere in this picture to be interesting. The Space Shuttle's crew snapped this shot of the moon when they were flying over Earth during mission STS-35. The Aurora From Low Orbit

What does a planet look like when a space ship is either orbiting, or coming in for a landing? Thanks to NASA, we know. The Space Shuttle Discovery's crew snapped this shot of the Southern Lights when they were flying over Earth during mission STS-39. Image Credit: http://apod.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap980222.html Here is a beautiful picture of the aurora (in this case the Southern Lights) from low orbit. You can see the constellation Orion in the background. The Space Shuttle's crew snapped this shot when they were flying over Earth during mission STS-59. I Feel Lucky! Oh So Lucky!

Yesterday I got most of the way through the ordering process to buy Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI but I didn't know my street address zip code. I've never used it. Not Ever. But, Amazon.com won't send software to a PO Box. My failing memory made me lucky! Over night the price for PSP went down an extra $10. Add to that a $30 rebate and the total price is now only $39.99. Good deal! Woo. And this all means that I was able to buy Bernadette Gardner's Infinite Worlds for less than a quarter. The $10 I saved paid for her book.

Starry Night

IMGP7133-7251 Originally uploaded by Bob West . This is an interesting starry night. Love it. I like the focal point. The colors are fabulous. And, I think it is interesting that only some of the stars are reflecting in the water.

Frazy

http://www.frazy.com A "review" site for music, movies and books for extreme users. What's an extreme user? Giggles. What I'd call this site is a extremely great way to get some Amazon.com referral money. (And not the $3.00 I've earned in the last 10 years -- yes, I've been a Amazon.com shopper for 10 years now.) http://www.frazy.com/user/annaleeblysse For authors with print books to promote, you can add your own book with a handful of tags and it'll provide some more exposure. The site is looking new enough that tagging is wide open. There is a rating system where you can paste reviews. I suppose the best way to get more exposure is to rate other books, movies and music. http://www.frazy.com/profile/annaleeblysse This site may provide a little exposure, but at the very least you can get a free link back to your Web site. They have a method of creating reciprocal links where users are posting comments on sites like myspace.com. Example: powered by frazy.co
