Apparently a week ago they released around 250,000 blue rubber duckies for charity. I love watching duck races. It is a fun way to do something nice for the community, and in this case ... This weekend The Great Reno Balloon Race , one of the largest balloon rallies in the United States, was taking place. Unfortunately for me, I have to be at work earlier than normal on Saturdays as part of my regular schedule and since I've had that schedule I miss the best part. This year, same as last year, I had the best of intentions of taking a nap Friday night and waking up at 3:00 so that I could stop by the dawn patrol ... and then go to work. But, no. I couldn't get myself out of bed. I clocked in at 7:59 even without the dawn patrol drive by. This morning at 5:00 AM they had the same event where they fire up the special shaped balloons like the Energizer Bunny made up as the Hot Hare Balloon and make them glow. I didn't get up for that either. But here are some pics and a movie from another year when this early bird culd find worms.... I found a great butternut squash recipe on Yahoo! Food today ... Penne with Roasted Butternut Squash and Ham . I love ham and squash together, but that isn't what attracted me to this recipe. I'm curious about the mascarpone cheese. I don't think I've ever tried it, unless it was in a dish at fancy restaurant or something and I didn't know what I was trying. Until today, I didn't even know what mascarpone cheese was. Thanks to this page , I know where to find this speciality cheeese because they do have a Trader Joe's somewhere in town.
