Man on the Moon

This week is the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11 and wandering around I found John Stossel's blog post about Clumsy Spending that lead me to Cafe Hayek's post called Moon Struck ... which both suggest future trips to the moon (at least now) would be wasteful. I'm torn... Basically, I consider NASA one of the most useful endeavors our government has undertaken. But, do we need to send two more human beings to the moon to spend a few hours collecting rocks to keep Earth-bound scientists studying rocks? Not really. No, I don't think so. Still, I consider that other programs like NASA's Near-Earth Object Program would benefit from the science and technology NASA accumulates. Learning how to deflect hazardous NEOs could very well save all life on the planet. Then again, we could ignore the possibility of a global killer impacting our planet during our lifetimes because if the Cosmos dealt us a massive asteroid anytime soon we go extinct anyway and politics will no longer

40th Anniversary

Today marked the 40th anniversary of the launch of the Apollo 11 lunar landing mission. The image comes from one of the Great Images in NASA Site: The American flag heralds the flight of Apollo 11, the first Lunar landing mission. The Apollo 11 Saturn V space vehicle lifted off with astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr., at 9:32 a.m. EDT July 16, 1969, from Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39A. During the planned eight-day mission, Armstrong and Aldrin will descend in a lunar module to the Moon's surface while Collins orbits overhead in the Command Module. The two astronauts are to spend 22 hours on the Moon, including two and one-half hours outside the lunar module. They will gather samples of lunar material and will deploy scientific experiments which will transmit data about the lunar environment. They will rejoin Collins in the Command Module for the return trip to Earth. Apollo 11 Launch Postcard by annaleeblysse Create a photo post

And Yer Little Dog Too

On Sunday night I watched the new Brendan Frasier movie called Inkhart ... and the little dog Toto had a bit role. On Monday night I watched the original movie Wizard of Oz ... and the little dog Toto was a star. Then, next morning at work a cranky lady picked up one of the debt collection calls we were making at work and screamed: "I told you, I don't know Toto!" And, then she hung up. The man we were calling for had a uncommon name that didn't sound anything like Toto. I assumed she meant to tell me I had the wrong number and deleted it anyway, but maybe she was a phychic and her extrasensory perception was getting in the way? It was definitely a strange response.
