Only Australians need apply...

Condoms Originally uploaded by Tortuguita_88 At my job, I can get fired for sleeping on the job... But not for the condom testers that work for Durex . "It only takes a minute to apply and if you're successful you could be testing heaps of Durex products and provide your honest feedback." I wonder if they have women that apply to be the test subjects. After all, the eel needs a cave to try out the condom. (I watched Memoirs of a Geisha last night on Starz.) Unfortunately for those of us here in the Northern Hemisphere, you must be an Australian resident to apply.

My Favorite Things

Thirteen of My Favorite Things Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens.... I love watching and singing along to a great musical. When I was a kid I used to run about singing like life was a musical. People would ask me what I was singing, but I was just making it up as I went. And I love dancing. I talked my mother into letting me take ballet lessons for a little while. But I wasn’t graceful and my ballet teacher didn’t have very liberal thoughts on teaching children. If you sucked, she let you know. But, she couldn’t ever accuse me of not enjoying dancing. All my favorite songs are either on soundtracks, or are great story like “Desperado” by the Eagles. Listing thirteen favorites might be the subject of another Thursday Thirteen. Some of the movie songs I’ve listened to while typing today: Da Funk by Daft Punk on The Saint soundtrack and #1 Crush by Mundy on the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack. Writing. I can get lost in writing. I love creating stories and characters. Apparently e

Happy 4th of July & Homegrown Fireworks

It is super hot here for the 4th. As I type it is 103.8 F here at the house. I think I'll go outside and bake for a few minutes just to say I did. As for the homegrown fireworks.... Last night I was trying to watch television and this metallic clown helium balloon was floating around in front of me and hitting me. It was kind of creeping me out. I must have an electrical field surrounding my body that was attractive to this balloon because I could hold up my hand and it would move toward me. I freed him from his restraints and he went flying away and I never saw or thought about him again until... Around about 3:15 a.m. I just happened to be getting home since I didn't have to work today and I was sneaking around on tippy toes in the dark trying not to wake anyone up. Anyone being my brother who has been staying here all the time since his son showed up for the summer. He did have to work today so I wanted to be quiet. Anyway, I see this dark shadow floating around in the livin

Chemical of the Week

Fireworks! at Chemical of the Week . Here is the introduction from that page: "Have you ever been to an aerial fireworks show at an amusement park, baseball game, Fourth of July celebration, or on New Year's Eve and wondered about how all the impressive colors and sounds are produced? People everywhere enjoy the fantastic explosions and the brilliant light displays of fireworks. However, these spectacles are much more than just a form of entertainment. Each firework launched into the sky is a precisely formed assembly of chemicals and fuel, carefully calibrated to produce a particular effect – a red chrysanthemum spray accompanied by a powerful explosion, or a blue strobe, for example. Understanding how the contents of a firework produce the impressive variety of colors, forms, and sound intensities requires only a simple understanding of chemical reactions." I found it from the page about Arsenic (a chemical every mystery/suspense writer eventually is curious about).

Maybe Baby by Lani Diane Rich

kakapo Originally uploaded by caocompulgas Here is the real reason I was looking up kakapos on Flickr this evening... My latest read is Maybe Baby by Lani Diane Rich . Besides enjoying the story, I'm enjoying the cause. One of the major players in this contemporary romance is an endangered "green chicken". Kakapo (Māori: kākāpō, meaning "night parrot") are native to New Zealand that I can't claim to know all that much about. But, kakapo are some of the most endangered birds in the world and I'm a parrot and macaw activist of sorts. The least I can do is post some links so these websites can get a few extra google "points" and thus more visitors that can donate time and or money to the cause. http://www.kakapo.org.nz/ Kakapo Recovery Programme http://www.kakapo.net/en/ The Fabulous Kakapo Parrot

Lovely Pink Frame

Ö Originally uploaded by Pheliks It was the pink jeweled frame that caught my eye, not the instructions on using a composting toilet. Apparently this frame and sign is above a "kakapo" toilet. What a motto ... "In Compost We Trust"

Anonymous Debtors

Debt Article, Nov '06 Originally uploaded by georgi mabee A man called in and verified all the information needed to discuss a debt that we have at the debt collection agency I work at. My coworker noted that the name he'd used is typically feminine. So my coworker asked if he was the debtor's spouse. "No, that's just it.... If I provide all the documentation showing I've had a sex change operation, am I still going to be responsible for this debt?"

New Drug Menace Sweeping Our Youth

Why is it that older generations tend to blame the younger generations for the ills of society? I have talked to numerous people (each under 70) that have blamed marijuana for the fall of society as they knew it. I personally am not a fan of marijuana and have been quite vocal about my views about the dangers of that drug over the last two decades. Still, I've never believed that the whole problem started in the Viet Nam era. That is what I've always been told. That people didn't use marijuana when my grandmother was a teen. However, they did. And, it was a big enough worry to sell magazines. Shopping Thoughts

My brother (Amazon worker) had a 60 hour work-week last week, and most of the rest of July. They have a team of people already packaging up the huge numbers of Harry Potter pre-buys. Imagine that. People out there get to touch that book before the rest of us. LOL. Despite being so busy with Harry Potter, I got new in my e-mail that Amazon is trying to get new grocery customers. I personally can see myself buying food from them because every time I drive up to Wal-Mart to shop and I stand around forever. So many people are buying in massive quantity and I just need a few items. My time is worth a slight increase in cost. It did occur to me that I'm about to order some books. If I add one grocery item, the author I link off will get $3.
