My Thirteen Monkisms

My Thirteen Monkisms Can you tell that I've been "renting" old Monk episodes on Netflix? I don’t like to touch public door knobs. I often carry wipes. When people hold up possibly spoiled food to me and ask, "Does this smell all right to you?" I turn down the opportunity to inhale germs and mold. (I can’t recall seeing this joke on Monk yet, but I think they should use it.) Just because corporate America categorizes toothbrush holders as bathroom decor doesn’t mean I have to decorate my bathroom with my toothbrush. House guests often ask me ... why do you brush your teeth in the kitchen? Even before Monk was invented, I once tried to dip my toothbrush in boiling water to sterilize it. All the bristles melted out of their little sockets and warped in odd directions. Can’t believe everything you see on television. Boiling water and toothbrushes don’t mesh well. I won’t put my lips on a clarinet someone else sucked on either. (Monk and the Red-Headed Stranger episo

Serendipity Strikes

My latest read was Public Displays of Affection by Susan Donovan . I had read the shorts in the "Real Men" anthologies, and dug out this book from the bookcase. It is a second-chance story where the hero and heroine met 13 years earlier, then the hero moved into the house next door. Those second-chance theme books are among my favorite, and I also love serendipitous stories. This book quickly enterred keeper status for me. I loved it, and I couldn't set it down while reading it. Here are some real life improbably probabilities I've witnessed.... My first love lives doesn't live next door to me. We moved 3000 miles to run into each other again. He lives an hour or so from here. Not exactly next door, but completely unexpected. At my day job as a debt collector, there have been 4 million debtors we've had the opportunity to call over the last year at work. The lady I carpool with called her first boyfriend. She hadn't heard from him in 25 years, and hadn
