The fireworks were cancelled this year (two nights in a row) due to a flood along the Truckee River in downtown Reno after a big rainstorm. As I type this it is snowing now. On New Years' Eve I went downtown and took a few pictures of the raging river, but this is my favorite. The water was muddy and still on this basketball court, but I still thought it was lovely. I'll have to go back when the water recedes and get a closer look at this mural. I've seen in in passing, but didn't see the details.

Oooh, that IS pretty!
ReplyDeleteYour description of your weather reminds me of "The Day After Tomorrow"...
We're told to expect 12-16 inches of snow depending on elevation.
*sigh* I guess winter is here.
Keep warm! I like your new profile pic showing up on comments... pastels with fairy. Nice.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have snow then rain... probably because we get much rain, and no snow, here in Florida.
ReplyDeleteHope your weather doesn't slow you down!
We are in a MAJOR drought here (Ft Worth) - been saying for weeks on the news, no fire works (we had several brush fires over the weekend - wiped out one entire town) - wouldn't you know it, New year's eve at 11 and 12 some jerk was shooting them off -
ReplyDeletesorry - off my rant now. . .
annalee- awesome picture. I would like to see what it looks like without the water. When you go back, take a coupla of pix. Our snow storm fizzled last night and we only got an inch or so. Again the weather services is calling for 6 inches by tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThanks Annalee! I'm getting used to it.
ReplyDeleteLIke Gregg said, our 36 hour storm fizzled to 12 hours. We had about 4 inches my way, but a few towns over had 6 to 8 inches...so I guess elevation had a lot to do with it and storm track.
It was AWESOME snowball and snowman making snow however. I inspired the kids to go outside by going out and making my sad attempt at a snowmunchkin.
**shakes head** sad...very sad....I'll stick to shoveling..
:-)
The kids have school today, yea!!
It's a beautiful picture, Annalee, but the reality isn't. So sorry.
ReplyDeleteStay safe and warm.
Hugs,
Tanya
LOL looks like my back yard (the water that is). I love the mural. Fantastic with the water before it. Isn't it amazing how much water can come from no-where?
ReplyDeleteThe orchard across the street was flooded more than 50ft across (away from the slough that is) and probably 4 feet at it's deepest. I wish I had a picture, it was amazing to watch. But with the Sacramento River rising so much, it wont be the first time. Stay safe and dry.

I was wondering how the rivers are in CA. We typically get far less rain on this side of the mountains.
