Written in Blood: a farewell to the 1990s vampire subgenre
by Jessica Amanda Salmonson

"And I would be surprised indeed if cheesy vampire erotica, a literature for self-loathing inverts & aging housewives, ever again dominates the bookracks."

Can you tell this author doesn't enjoy reading the same things I do?

"Genre authors invariably fall into imitating each other, so you always find a lot of them doing the same thing, each thinking him or herself innovative."

I'd have to say, that authors who don't think of themselves as innovative aren't in the right profession. Even those authors that are "striving for higher art". Creativity is a huge part of writing, and since all the big ideas have been invented already, we're all stuck with variations on old ideas. That is the nature of being human. Granted, the Wright Brothers had more luck with flying than the first human being that fell off a cliff 150,000 years ago and thought "damn, I wish I could fly". Vampires too have been around for a long, long time. I'm glad they're not going anywhere. I enjoy reading paranormal romance, and vampires are my favorite.

    Is she nuts?

Vampires are just hitting their stride.

We haven't seen romantic Alien Vampires...
I just saw my first vampire cat ....

  2. Vampire cat? Which book?

There are a couple alien vampire at NCP. RAIDERS OF VAMPYRA and ETERNAL DAMNATION that are both in the Sky Pirates print anthology. And Ride the Stars and Once Bitten, but I haven't own those.

I was writing about vampires today, when I should be writing about aliens! I have really been trying to write, but I got distracted by What About Bob? I hadn't seen that movie forever.

My Favorite Things

Thirteen of My Favorite Things Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens.... I love watching and singing along to a great musical. When I was a kid I used to run about singing like life was a musical. People would ask me what I was singing, but I was just making it up as I went. And I love dancing. I talked my mother into letting me take ballet lessons for a little while. But I wasn’t graceful and my ballet teacher didn’t have very liberal thoughts on teaching children. If you sucked, she let you know. But, she couldn’t ever accuse me of not enjoying dancing. All my favorite songs are either on soundtracks, or are great story like “Desperado” by the Eagles. Listing thirteen favorites might be the subject of another Thursday Thirteen. Some of the movie songs I’ve listened to while typing today: Da Funk by Daft Punk on The Saint soundtrack and #1 Crush by Mundy on the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack. Writing. I can get lost in writing. I love creating stories and characters. Apparently e
