On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln signed the proclamation that made Nevada the 36th state. Being wartime, Battle Born became one of the state's nicknames (saw it on Jeopardy once). In 1864 most of the towns that make Nevada famous today were yet unborn. Back then Virginia City was where it was happening. The Comstock has given Nevada another one of its nicknames... The Silver State. This 36-star flag once flew proud in a mining town. These days it is enclosed in glass so you can see the reflections of slot machines in the glass -- Betty Boops being my favorite of those. :)
