Along these lines, paleo-future.blogspot.com features some postcards that depicted what people at the dawn of the 20th Century considered the 21st Century would bring. There are many posts on this blog that would prove an interesting jumping point for research that provide a historical look at the future -- as they say, the future that never was.

Don't know about you, But I for one am glad we aren't still wearing bustles and corsets. I wouldn't mind a personal flying machine either - especially if it came with a personal pilot. ;)
ReplyDeleteSome of these are hysterical, others are pretty innovative. I think it's interesting that they looked forward to walking on water and roofed cities. :D Oh how times have changed.
ReplyDeleteHeather, Within the last week I saw a picture online with a woman wearing a corset on the outside of her clothing. Goth, I suppose. It looked SOOOO uncomfortable. When I was a kid, maybe 30 years ago, I had predicted that we'd have personal flying cars in the year 2000+ when I was an adult. But, now that I'm here, I defenitely agree we'd all need a personal pilot. Can you imagine the mess on the Interstate!? Eeee....
ReplyDeleteThe vacations at the North Pole one I thought was "right on" with what rich people do. Last July I found a Web site that people pay to go up north for ecotours and wrote about it here.
