Dawn Patrol

This is what I will not be doing in a few hours. I have to go to work in the morning. It is that time of year again for The Great Reno Balloon Race. This morning (well, Friday) there was a seven-car pile up on the Interstate because people here like to watch them fly about.

Someone Else's Time Lapse

* I'm seriously considering purchasing QuickTime Pro for Windows because the Apple Store says that I can save the clips from my digital camera to .mpeg format. That way, I could actually edit the videos I take with my Kodak EasyShare with Windows Movie Maker. Anybody out there with experience, I'd appreciate the insight.

  1. That would be so cool to see!

There was an article in last Sunday's travel section on the big balloon festival in Albequerque, something I would love to attend some time (you know, when I come into that inheritance from a long lost relative and can afford to travel). I can't even imagine that many balloons in the air at once.

There was an attempt at a balloon fest here a few years ago, with launches scheduled for sunrise and 5pm four consecutive days, but half of them ended up cancelled. It seems the wind would have carried them into air space of the airport and you know how the FAA frowns on that (esp post-9/11). We got lucky during the one evening launch though -- the entire fleet of 15 or so went RIGHT over our building. :)

  2. I think I'll wake up early tomorrow and watch the mass ascension. It is a great year for balloons because there is no wind this weekend. A few years they've been chancelled here too.

When I was driving by this morning around 7:30 AM there were about 100 hot air balloons just hanging there over Reno. But I couldn't watch really, I was driving.

My Favorite Things

Thirteen of My Favorite Things Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens.... I love watching and singing along to a great musical. When I was a kid I used to run about singing like life was a musical. People would ask me what I was singing, but I was just making it up as I went. And I love dancing. I talked my mother into letting me take ballet lessons for a little while. But I wasn’t graceful and my ballet teacher didn’t have very liberal thoughts on teaching children. If you sucked, she let you know. But, she couldn’t ever accuse me of not enjoying dancing. All my favorite songs are either on soundtracks, or are great story like “Desperado” by the Eagles. Listing thirteen favorites might be the subject of another Thursday Thirteen. Some of the movie songs I’ve listened to while typing today: Da Funk by Daft Punk on The Saint soundtrack and #1 Crush by Mundy on the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack. Writing. I can get lost in writing. I love creating stories and characters. Apparently e
