Wandering around this afternoon I found FoodFacts.com, a great resource for people with issues such as food allergies or people that want to avoid eating various toxins. For instance, at foodfacts.com I found a small list (one at this time) that use propylene glycol.
Now, wait a second, I thought....
Isn't that anti-freeze?
Tap, tappity-tap. (Sounds of me googling propylene glycol.)
I wasn't mistaken.
Sure enough, propylene glycol is the main ingredient in anti-freeze. Here are the pages at Dow that I found regarding industrial grade propylene glycol and food/pharmaceutical use of propylene glycol. And here is another page warning about how propylene glycol is particularly dangerous for cats.
I don't know about you, but I'm just enough of a health food nut to consider that a little today might not kill me but a lifetime of eating unnatural foods can't be good for me.
