I got home from work today with my throat burning and my head pounding thanks to one of the numbskulls I work with that doesn't care about their own, or anyone else's lung health. When I think of getting a new job, it isn't because I'm tired of being a debt collector ... it is because breathing in the toxic soup sucks! Former Ms. America ® Susan Jeske is active in educating people about the toxic chemicals that destroy health. On Jeske's Site, you can find more information about the "Toxic Twelve" chemicals (pollutants) that are commonly found in skin care products and cosmetics.
1. Benzoyl peroxide
2. DEA (diethanolamine) and MEA (monoethanolamine) and TEA (triethanolamine)
3. Dioxin
4. DMDM hydantoin and imidazolidinyl urea
5. Synthetic Colors and Pigments
6. Parabens (methyl, butyl, ethyl, propyl)
7. FEG (polyethylene glycol)
8. Phthalates (xenoestrogens)
9. Propylene glycol and butylene glycol
10. Sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate
11. Sunscreen chemicals like avobensone, benzphenone and PABA
12. Triclosan
I see one of my favorite chemicals to avoid on the list...
I avoid ingesting propylene glycol. You'll find plenty of people on the Internet that argue that propylene glycol is safe in cosmetics and food. They'll point you to the goverenment sites that catalog the toxicity of hazardous substances.
Hello! The whole point of those goverenment studies is that propylene glycol is a known, but unregulated hazardous substance!
Okay, so the goverenment agencies that keep an eye on the hazardous substances know that propylene glycol won't kill you today. But there is no way to quantify the results of exposure to propylene glycol over decades because it has only been a few decades that microwave ovens got food producers thinking that food sells better when it looks good in the frozen food section.
One thing is certain...
It can't hurt you to avoid those twelve substances in food and cosmetics.
