Meaning of Life

Meaning of Life, originally uploaded by h.koppdelaney.

Intolerance lies at the core of evil.
Not the intolerance that results
from any threat or danger.
But intolerance of another being who dares to exist.
Intolerance without cause. It is so deep within us,
because every human being secretly desires
the entire universe to himself.
Our only way out is to learn
compassion without cause. To care for each other
simple because that ‘other’ exists.

- Rabbi Menachem Mendle

  1. Annalee,

Thanks for posting this philosophically profound quote from Mendle paired with the picture by H. Koppdelaney.

    It is very moving.

  2. I put that quote on my blog because I was wandering around reading what journalists had to say about Helen Thomas and her unfortunate statements with regards to Israel. I'm not a fan of hers but I take her apology at face value. I really don't think she is a hateful, intolerant person.

I was saddened when I see that for once the left and right in the media can meet in the middle when it comes to hating Helen Thomas.

Whatever happened to investigative reporting? And logic for that matter!

If Helen Thomas was a bigot she'd have left behind plenty of proof over the years. She's 89 and she's spent most of her life being part of the media. If she truly is a bigot, shame on almost everyone in the media for not having noticed until this week.

I'm really very frustrated that so many in the media dropped Helen Thomas so easily and with no regrets. If they new Helen Thomas, they likely reported on the Bush Administration, and now about the Obama Administration. How can we the people believe what they've been telling us about either Dems or Republicans if they can't treat their own with more respect? And! How can we have a democracy if our media isn't giving us an accurate picture of our leadership?

It's kinda frustrating to see the effects of hatred and intolerance playing out in the media.

My Favorite Things

Thirteen of My Favorite Things Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens.... I love watching and singing along to a great musical. When I was a kid I used to run about singing like life was a musical. People would ask me what I was singing, but I was just making it up as I went. And I love dancing. I talked my mother into letting me take ballet lessons for a little while. But I wasn’t graceful and my ballet teacher didn’t have very liberal thoughts on teaching children. If you sucked, she let you know. But, she couldn’t ever accuse me of not enjoying dancing. All my favorite songs are either on soundtracks, or are great story like “Desperado” by the Eagles. Listing thirteen favorites might be the subject of another Thursday Thirteen. Some of the movie songs I’ve listened to while typing today: Da Funk by Daft Punk on The Saint soundtrack and #1 Crush by Mundy on the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack. Writing. I can get lost in writing. I love creating stories and characters. Apparently e
