I have a few friends that recently both started stores at Zazzle. They have ask me what sells best in the online marketplace at Zazzle.
For me... all kinds of varied items. I started my store there many years ago, before we were limited to 100,000, so I have a wide range of products that sell.
But my advice for my friends was actually to do things a little different from what I'd done in the past. Zazzle's site is always changing and adapting to the Internet of today. I suggested that they focus more on creating templates that people can customize.
In the past, I saw stores that performed great with perhaps a million products because they'd have a design with 500 different name options. But, these days that kind of production isn't possible on Zazzle and we are encouraged to create perhaps one version of the design with a name template.
So today's advice to them for what sells...
Whatever the theme you're working on...
1. Create products one at a time with unique descriptions, titles and tags. Update 9/12/2019 … Zazzle introduced a transfer the design option. Adding a design to many products is no longer necessary.
2. Create your own unique product that contain templates for people to customize or personalized.
3. If you're working on a theme (such as St. Patrick's Day), start a quick search in the marketplace to see what the most popular products for that theme. You'll probably see t-shirts, greeting cards, postcards, and a few other products types. Those are what you can create first. If you wanted to make a St. Pat's Day pouf or a teapot... sure ... make them. But far more green themed t shirts will sell.
